Houston Community College is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Instructor of Astronomy. As a member of our faculty, you will play a vital role in advancing the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life, and community service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach astronomy courses at the college level, utilizing a variety of effective methodologies and delivery methods.
  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course, within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
  • Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
  • Participate in institutional service activities, including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and completion of at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in Astronomy.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of college-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software, including Blackboard Vista, or similar online software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Possess good organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
