Position Overview:
The Clinical Documentation Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing the daily functions and activities of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program within the region. This role is pivotal in fostering consistent and standardized practices across the network, while also nurturing productive relationships with various departments and vendors to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs the daily operations and resource management of the assigned CDI team, focusing on the establishment and tracking of strategic operational goals, objectives, and performance metrics. Engages in continuous support of CDI through collaboration with healthcare professionals and leadership.
- Facilitates enhancements in clinical documentation through comprehensive chart reviews and educational initiatives, collaborating closely with the CDI Educator. Initiates corrective measures to address identified discrepancies within the organization.
- Partners with the CDI educator to deliver ongoing educational programs for new staff, including clinical documentation registered nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. Plays a key role in guiding all aspects of the clinical documentation process.
- Implements and supports technologies aimed at improving the accuracy of clinical service representation, patient illness severity, and mortality risk assessment.
- Conducts audits on CDI reviews to ensure quality and compliance with coding standards. Provides constructive feedback to staff and reports on CDI metrics, focusing on key performance indicators and productivity.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians and department managers, to ensure integrity in revenue, coding accuracy, and data quality.
- Maintains communication with regional physician leaders and participates in medical management meetings to present CDI metrics and address inquiries.
- Responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and managing the CDI team.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of two years' experience in an acute care hospital or surgical setting as a clinical nurse.
- At least three years' experience as a clinical documentation specialist.
- Two years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Regular sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive movements.
- Frequent use of vision and hearing for effective communication and monitoring.
- Regular keyboard use and data entry.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications:
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license as per state regulations.
