About the Opportunity

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Post-doctoral Researcher to join our Geology & Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI). As a research-driven institution, we are committed to innovation and excellence in Africa.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting original research of international excellence and contributing to the development of research objectives and proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct original research in sustainable geomaterials from industrial by-products, with a focus on valorization and recycling.
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own and/or collaborative research areas.
  • Prepare papers for publication in leading journals and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Communicate research development, progress, and results to the research project team.
  • Develop collaborative links with core scientific personnel in related program areas.
  • Identify areas of improvement within the research structure using integrated management approaches.
  • Support the development of proposals for research funding.
Requirements
  • PhD, or equivalent in chemistry, materials science, environmental sciences, or a relevant discipline in wastes valorization and recycling.
  • Expert knowledge of inorganic material or mineral synthesis, preferentially in cement binders, geopolymers, and ceramic products.
  • Background knowledge in two or more of the following areas: cement manufacturing, ceramics and glass synthesis, heavy metal leaching from fluid-rock interaction, mineral dissolution kinetics, and microstructural and mineralogical characterization.
  • Background knowledge in industrial by-products recycling and repurposing.
  • Experience with phosphogypsum, a by-product of the fertilizer industry, valorization as construction materials is an asset.
Skills and Qualities
  • Excellent communication in both English and French languages.
  • Good publication track record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
  • Excellent networking ability and organizational skills.
  • Experience in co-supervision and coordination of masters and PhD level students.
  • Proven ability of working with team members and PhD students to help build their research skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to generate new ideas, links, and build upon existing ideas to generate unique concepts and solutions.
