Job Summary:

Covenant Health (Tennessee) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Medical Technologist to lead our laboratory operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the technical functions within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate laboratory operations to ensure high-quality services are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide oversight for daily laboratory operations, including staffing, training, and quality assurance.
  • Participate in performance appraisals and hiring processes for laboratory staff.
  • Prepare documentation for disciplinary actions and make recommendations to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Provide recommendations for commendations, bonuses, or other forms of recognition for outstanding performance.
  • Make work assignments and direct work activities, adjusting staffing as needed to minimize overtime.
  • Coordinate staff relief for breaks, meals, meetings, and absences.
  • Monitor inter-departmental specimen travel lists and resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide shift reports to the Laboratory Manager and coordinate work schedules.
  • Ensure competency in critical skills, including demonstration of competency in each technical area of the laboratory.
  • Resolve technical and clerical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken and documented.
  • Identify training needs and ensure that each individual performing duties receives regular in-service training.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in evaluating competency of personnel and ensuring that competency is maintained.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) years' experience in a high-complexity testing laboratory, with exposure to managerial duties.
  • Licensed as a Medical Technologist by the State of Tennessee.
  • ASCP registered or equivalent (NCA) preferred.
