Job Summary:
The Academic Technology Specialist position at Duke Health is a key role in supporting the instructional design and technology needs of faculty and staff. This position works closely with the Manager for Educational Technology Services to provide expertise in learning management systems, instructional design, and technology trends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop online courses and learning materials using Canvas LMS
- Collaborate with faculty to understand online course plans and provide technical support
- Consult with faculty on course content display and provide recommendations for improvement
- Train faculty and staff on LMS functions and site maintenance
- Assist with student and faculty guides/documentation for Canvas LMS
- Implement and manage course site templates
- Collaborate with the technical team to test, document, and demonstrate new academic software applications and tools
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to test new learning management systems
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and staff on innovative uses of technology
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with additional experience in instructional design and Canvas LMS Administration
- Instructional design expertise with insights about technology trends and solutions
- Experience with web authoring tools, multimedia tools, presentation software, streaming video in an academic environment
- Knowledge of learning management systems and other tools widely-used for teaching
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Problem-solver with the ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical terms
- Ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community
- Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching
