Job Title: Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team at Blythe Construction, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing estimate packages, implementing department standards and procedures, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of estimate packages.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and review plans, proposals, specifications, RFPs, and other project-related documents to develop a competent and competitive bid proposal.
  • Actively communicate with subcontractors and vendors to facilitate quotes.
  • Prepare reports and analysis pertinent to estimating as requested by management.
  • Pricing labor, equipment, and material costs.
  • Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.
  • Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to produce detailed, final contract estimates.
  • Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.
  • Ability to identify potential construction issues through the estimating process.
  • Ability to identify value-engineering alternatives.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Working experience on HCSS software a plus.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Estimator bidding on heavy highway projects.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor as an estimator bidding on DOT or heavy highway projects between $1M and $25M required.
  • Typical projects are paving, bridges, earthwork, interstate rehabs, highway replacements, and airport projects.
Physical Demands:
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 30 pounds and, at times, as much as 50 pounds, as may be assigned.
  • Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt.
