Job Title: Watch Commander

As a pivotal member of the security team, the Watch Commander will report directly to the Captain of Patrol Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a designated shift, ensuring the safety and security of the campus environment. The Watch Commander will supervise a team comprising DPS Shift Supervisors, contract security personnel, and student workers, while actively engaging in patrolling activities and responding to any emergencies that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer expert guidance to security personnel and students in the enforcement of campus regulations.
  • Compile and maintain reports, schedules, and key control, while assessing the security of various campus locations.
  • Address complaints, conduct apprehensions, and gather evidence as necessary.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement on incidents occurring in proximity to the campus.
  • Oversee the performance and training of contract security officers.
  • React promptly to alarms and emergency situations.
  • Produce daily activity reports and perform regular patrols to identify potential security risks.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and provide escort services when required.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Arts degree or higher in criminology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement or security roles.
  • Possession of a valid California Guard Card and Driver's License.
  • Current certifications in CPR/First-Aid & AED, as well as PR24 Baton certification.
  • Completion of PC 832 Training.
  • Familiarity with emergency response protocols, public safety practices, and security operations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Physical Requirements

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $31.75, commensurate with experience.
