About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director of Economic Development to join our team at the City of New Haven. As a key member of our economic development team, you will play a critical role in driving economic growth and prosperity in our city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise professional staff in the implementation of economic development projects
  • Act as Project Manager on key development projects
  • Represent the Office in meetings with federal and state officials, private developers, and representatives of local public and private sectors
  • Assist in personnel selection, supervision, management, and development
  • Oversee budget development and administration for the department
  • Assist Director in program planning, policy development, and execution
  • Supervise office operations and procedures and other related administrative functions
  • Design and implement strategies for communicating the department's work to the public
  • Act as staff to the New Haven Development Commission and other City entities
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public or business administration, economics, finance, or a closely related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in administration and policy development, including at least three years of supervisory experience
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of designing and delivering an economic development program for an older city
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with officials and representatives of business and industry, as well as elected officials and the public
