Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Utility Locator to join our team at the City of DeLand. As a Utility Locator, you will be responsible for performing professional and technical civil work in locating city lines as requested by Sunshine One call center in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, clean, and organize vehicles, as well as stock inventory with needed parts and equipment.
  • Perform duties such as driving to requested locations and marking all city utilities.
  • Use assigned CPU laptop to collect ticket requests and log in responses as required to Sunshine One Call center.
  • Meet with contractors to verify utility lines and marks.
  • Assist engineers with design information on new line extensions or adding to existing as-built drawings.
  • Perform excavation and probing activities to verify locations.
  • Ability to walk long distances over different field conditions and weather.
  • Serve as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and six months of experience in field locating of water, wastewater, and reclaim utility systems or construction field or closely-related experience.
  • Ability to operate a computer and various software programs.
  • Experience in design, construction, and maintenance of Utility lines is required or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Work Environment: This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation, and driving. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty conditions, with hands, feet, and/or legs in wastewater and may handle chemicals.
