Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in managing various facets of accounting, internal controls, and overseeing financial reporting for Guardian Life's extensive network of independent and company-owned agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, which includes preparing and/or reviewing monthly accruals and estimates.
- Conduct quarterly reconciliations of general ledger accounts and system interface files, assisting in the preparation of corporate attestation reports.
- Coordinate the provision of financial data to internal auditors and external accountants.
- Oversee the preparation and review of Year-End 1099 tax reporting schedules, ensuring timely filings with the tax department.
- Participate in testing internal controls and coordinating responses, while evaluating existing accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise the review and follow-up of deliverables from the offshore accounting team.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting and expense reimbursement policies among company-owned agency accountants.
- Analyze financial outcomes, identifying sources of variances and trends.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and enhancement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting and financial analysis experience.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and control procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on process improvement.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Desire for personal development and growth.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle general ledger systems, and SmartView is advantageous.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
Compensation:
Salary Range: $79,000 - $130,000. This range is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. Final salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, and abilities. This role may also be eligible for additional compensation such as annual bonuses or incentives.
