Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engineer 1 to join our team at Facilities Services. As a key member of our steam plant operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of high pressure boilers, electrical generators, and other equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain high pressure boilers, electrical generators, and other equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, using troubleshooting techniques and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless operation of the steam plant.
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay up-to-date with industry best practices and technologies.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems.
  • Certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college.
  • Ability to work night and weekend shifts as necessary based on plant operational needs.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, a Boiler Operator, 2nd Class from the City of Spokane, the National Institute of Uniform Licensing Engineers, or other departmental approved agency.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within the last 5 years as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system.
  • Recent experience operating 1MW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.
  • Water treatment certification, man-lift training and certification, and fork-lift training and certification.
