Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator Lead

Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Operator Lead is responsible for leading a team of heavy equipment operators in performing equipment operations, road maintenance, and support to maintain Fort Carson property. The successful candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment operations, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule all shop maintenance requests to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Determine priorities, personnel, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety programs and meet customer requirements.
  • Assist and train less experienced operators to maintain performance and operation records.
  • Aide supervisor with oversight of heavy equipment operations, including planning, laying out, assigning, and supervising work.
  • Ensure Environmental Protection Agency guidelines are met by inspecting work performed by equipment operator workers and maintaining accurate work records.
  • Write accurate and complete work reports for management use and help resolve operational problems.
  • Train and monitor Operators, Truck Drivers, and GMWs in the operations of the Heavy Equipment Team.
  • Consistently produce quality products and service.
  • Complete all training within required timelines.
  • Perform all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School education or equivalent education in the field or trade school completion may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for experience.
  • Prefer five years of skilled experience in heavy equipment operations, with experience in operating small trucks and grounds equipment preferred.
  • CDL Class A preferred.
  • Maximo and Cost point preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume work area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to maintain the ability to access government worksites.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold/heat, etc.).
  • Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, bending, crawling, reaching, and balancing.
  • Physically fit to frequently bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift and carry 50-75 lbs.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
