Senior Network Software Architect

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Software Architect to join our team at the National Black MBA Association. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing scalable network solutions, automating network deployment and operations, and leading architectural initiatives to provide solutions for business and stakeholder requirements within our internal networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development:
    • Lead the development of software solutions for network management and automation.
    • Ensure high quality, well-written, clean, efficient, and well-documented code within the team.
    • Assist the team with debugging and troubleshooting of software issues.
    • Develop microservices, APIs, and service templates that define the services provided to our customers.
  • Systems Administration:
    • Manage and maintain Linux servers and systems.
    • Lead the team regarding routine system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
    • Ensure system security and compliance in line with our best practices.
    • Effectively use Jira and Confluence to manage and document work.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    • Automate repetitive tasks and workflows using Python and shell scripts within a virtual environment.
    • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deployment automation.
    • Deploy code to development, QA, Staging, and Production servers using our continuous integration and deployment pipeline platform.
    • Test new services to ensure they function as expected using our testing framework, and add new test cases to the test suite to continuously improve our quality assurance bar.
    • Develop and implement automation strategies for network configuration, monitoring, and management.
    • Design and maintain scripts and tools to automate network tasks and workflows.
    • Implement and manage network orchestration tools to streamline operations in conjunction with our foundational automation team.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Lead code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
    • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to streamline operations and processes.
    • Participate in the team on-call rota to support application users.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand network requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
    • Lead architectural discussions and decision-making processes related to network and automation.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, DevOps engineers, and software developers.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network architects and engineers.
  • Documentation:
    • Create and maintain technical documentation for systems and processes.
    • Document code and systems configurations.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with our technologies. Identify and recommend improvements to existing network systems and processes.
    • Drive the adoption of new technologies and practices that enhance network deployment, upkeep, and reliability.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a network architect or in a similar senior-level network engineering role.
  • 7+ years of experience required.
  • Extensive experience with network automation tools and practices.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing enterprise-level network solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proficiency in network protocols, services, and standards (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, VLANs, VRF's).
  • Very strong proficiency in Python programming and Linux OS (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.).
  • Experience with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) (Arista CVP, Cisco ACI).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform).
