Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled trades worker to join our team as a Right-of-Way Skilled Trades Worker I. In this role, you will be responsible for performing maintenance, construction, and repair of county rights-of-way, stormwater conveyance, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform repair and installation of concrete sidewalks, curb & gutter, driveways, and handicap ramps.
  • Construct complex forming projects utilizing wood and metal products while maintaining and setting to proper grade.
  • Perform drainage pipe installation, and build custom concrete catch basins, headwalls, and spillways.
  • Perform asphalt repair and maintenance on county roadways.
  • Operate tools and equipment associated with road repair and modifications, road cuts, and pothole repair.
  • Set up Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) for safety, flagging per MOT standards, and perform labor-intensive tasks associated with shoveling, spreading, and compacting asphalt.
  • Conduct labor tasks to keep roadways and rights-of-way clear of obstructions.
  • Conduct manual trimming of trees for proper clearance and site distance problems, using chainsaws, weed eaters, pole saws, and manual tools associated.
  • Operate specialized equipment: Dump trucks, backhoes, small excavators, skid loaders, front-end loaders, and other related equipment required to maintain and repair road rights-of-way and stormwater systems.
  • Respond to customer complaints relating to road right-of-way issues, including ADA complaints, asphalt repair complaints, line of site problems, and roadway blockage concerns.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of vehicle and pedestrian travelway systems and/or road rights-of-way areas.
  • A valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement is required within six (6) months of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.
