Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Italian Home for Children is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing academic instruction and support to students with moderate special needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Supervise and support Assistant Teachers and Classroom Aides/Childcare Workers in daily classroom functioning and weekly supervision meetings.
  • Assess and diagnose levels and specific learning difficulties and behaviors through observation, formal and informal assessment, and ongoing recording of individual student performance.
  • Ensure compliance with MA and Federal Special Education regulations in cooperation with and at the direction of the Director of Special Education.
  • Evaluate Assistant Teachers, interns, and special projects in conjunction with the Director of Special Education.
  • Attend Staff and Supervision meetings, clinical conferences/progress reviews, and prepare oral and written reports for such meetings.
  • Develop individual programs for all summer school students.
  • Assist in Lunch/Recess duty as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Special Education to design methods for evaluating curriculum and establishing policies regarding the operation of the school program.
Requirements:
  • Degree and current certification in Special Education- Moderate Special Needs.
  • Receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development.
  • Commitment to highest quality of care.
  • Patience, empathy, compassion.
  • Extremely reliable.
  • Flexibility in thinking and action.
  • Strong computer skills and experience, use of internet and comfort learning client information system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong skill regarding follow up and follow through on tasks.
  • Strong organizational and motivational abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Evidence of sensitivity and respect for client's culture and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to provide therapeutic physical restraint.
  • Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions.
