We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Italian Home for Children. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing academic instruction and support to students with moderate special needs.
Key Responsibilities- Lesson Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement daily lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students with moderate special needs.
- Classroom Supervision and Support: Supervise and support Assistant Teachers and Classroom Aides/Childcare Workers in daily classroom functioning and weekly supervision meetings.
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Assess and diagnose levels and specific learning difficulties and behaviors through observation, formal and informal assessment, and ongoing recording of individual student performance.
- Compliance with Special Education Regulations: Ensure general compliance with MA and Federal Special Education regulations in cooperation with and at the direction of the Director of Special Education.
- Staff Evaluation and Development: Evaluate Assistant Teachers, interns, and special projects in conjunction with the Director of Special Education.
- Attendance and Participation: Attend Staff and Supervision meetings, clinical conferences/progress reviews, and prepare oral and written reports for such meetings.
- Summer School Program Development: Develop an individual program for all summer school students.
- Lunch and Recess Duty: Assist in Lunch/Recess duty as scheduled.
- Curriculum Development and Policy Establishment: Assist the Director of Special Education in the design of methods for evaluating curriculum and establishing policies regarding the operation of the school program.
- Professional Development and Growth: Maintain and increase effectiveness in behavior management and communicating with other professional staff through the use of training, supervision, and consultation.
- Education and Certification: Degree and current certification in Special Education - Moderate Special Needs.
- Supervision and Development: Must be receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development.
- Commitment to Quality Care: Commitment to highest quality of care.
- Personal Qualities: Patience, empathy, compassion, extremely reliable, flexibility in thinking and action, strong computer skills and experience, use of internet and comfort learning client information system, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong skill regarding follow up and follow through on tasks, strong organizational and motivational abilities, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, evidence of sensitivity and respect for client's culture and socioeconomic characteristics, ability to provide therapeutic physical restraint, visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions.
The expected salary range for this role is $85,000-$95,000 per year, dependent on experience.
