**BACKGROUND:** The IRC is committed to responding to the world's most pressing humanitarian crises, helping individuals to survive and rebuild their lives. Operating in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities, the IRC is a leader in guiding individuals from harm to home. The IRC office in Miami has been a vital resource for the community since the 1960s, providing essential support to refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, immigrant youth, and their families.

**INTERNSHIP SCOPE:** The Immigrant Youth Casework Intern will assist the Miami-Dade-based Immigrant Youth team in delivering vital services to immigrant children and their families. Key responsibilities include identifying and connecting clients with community resources to enhance self-sufficiency and participating in community awareness and outreach initiatives. The role may involve travel within the Miami-Dade region. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid, and candidates from South Florida are currently being considered.

**LEARNING OBJECTIVES:**

  • Gain insights into solution-oriented, strengths-based care coordination for immigrant families.
  • Develop skills in trauma-informed, client-centered care.
  • Learn to map community assets and resources effectively.
  • Enhance skills in client empowerment and advocacy.

**RESPONSIBILITIES:**

  • Assist caseworkers in supporting children and their families with school enrollment, public benefits applications, referrals, and client advocacy.
  • Conduct research on local community resources.
  • Engage in outreach to local organizations to foster partnerships within the community.
  • Perform administrative tasks including data entry, filing, and labeling.
  • Manage client case notes and files.
  • Communicate case statuses and client concerns to the supervisor and coordinate service plans.
**Minimum Qualifications:**

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Interest in international issues.
  • Passion for helping others and enthusiasm for working in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in computer use, preferably with PC systems.
  • Access to the internet.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to an insured vehicle.

**REQUIREMENTS:**

  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for at least 3 consecutive months.
  • Submit intern hours on the volunteer dashboard.

This is an in-person role.

The position will report to the Immigrant Youth Program Coordinator and Immigrant Youth Caseworker.
