Company Overview

The Transit Division is actively engaged in the development of an advanced Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. Within this division, the Transit Technology Group is tasked with overseeing essential technological frameworks that support transit operations.

The Train Control Upgrade Project is focused on modernizing the existing Automatic Train Control System utilized in the subway network. This initiative involves collaboration with multiple firms to facilitate installation, provide construction support, and offer technical expertise.

Position Overview

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary Exempt - Full Time, not to exceed three (3) years

Salary: $142,220 to $172,874 annually

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Under the supervision of the Train Control Upgrade Engineering Manager and Project Lead Engineer, the Junior Engineering Specialist will engage in system engineering tasks associated with the Train Control Upgrade Project. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing engineering assistance for the implementation of CBTC technology.
  • Contributing to the formulation of functional specifications for the new CBTC system.
  • Evaluating submissions from contractors during design assessments.
  • Collaborating on integration strategies between the CBTC system and other operational systems.
  • Monitoring the performance of the train control system to ensure adherence to established specifications.
  • Conducting field evaluations and inspections of various components within the train control system.
  • Potentially overseeing junior engineering personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of professional engineering experience and possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in California.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in train control and signaling technologies.
  • Experience with railway wayside equipment and systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in project settings.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and networking.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse groups and stakeholders.
