This role is open to current employees of the Veterans Health Administration.Key Responsibilities:
This position is situated within the Acute Care Nursing-Outpatient Division, specifically in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic. The clinic operates in a dynamic environment, catering to veterans with hematological and oncological conditions. Our team collaborates across various departments to ensure optimal care for our veteran population. The clinic is operational Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and federal holidays.
Essential Duties Include:
- Conducting vital signs assessments, including patient height and weight, and performing glucometer tests, while documenting results accurately.
- Facilitating patient check-ins and providing personal care as directed by nursing staff.
- Assisting with basic restorative care, including mobility support and transfers, utilizing appropriate assistive devices.
- Identifying and reporting safety hazards, errors, and patient concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Adhering to infection control protocols and employing universal precautions during patient interactions.
- Activating emergency response systems and performing basic life support as needed.
- Supporting nursing staff in transporting patients to various tests and procedures.
- Engaging with patients, families, and staff with professionalism and respect, effectively communicating wait times and other relevant information.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including managing inventory and assisting with the care of patients' personal belongings.
- Participating in environmental maintenance tasks, such as stocking supplies and ensuring equipment cleanliness.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with varying shifts between 7 AM and 5:30 PM.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
- Candidates must possess at least six months of general experience or relevant education in a healthcare-related field.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves walking, bending, and lifting as part of direct patient care, along with periods of sitting and standing.
