Position Overview

George Fox University's Health and Counseling department is seeking a dedicated and meticulous individual to join their team as a Clinical Support Counselor, aimed at fulfilling their predoctoral supervised clinical experience.


Role Summary:

The Clinical Support Counselor role encompasses supervised professional psychological services primarily focused on individual therapy with both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as crisis evaluations and psychological assessments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating individual, couples, and group therapy sessions.
  • Conducting psychological evaluations.
  • Providing crisis intervention and emergency support.
  • Managing administrative tasks, including timely completion of documentation such as notes and reports.
  • Participating in weekly supervision sessions.
  • Attending relevant staff meetings.
  • Engaging in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Offering consultation and outreach to the university community, which may include planning and delivering psycho-educational workshops for students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Maintaining effective and respectful communication with colleagues, students, and the public, fostering a spirit of teamwork and service.
  • Serving as a Christian role model to students through both informal interactions and formal supervisory roles.
  • Exhibiting respect and appreciation for diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives while collaborating with a variety of individuals.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidates Will Possess:

  • Current enrollment in an advanced degree program in psychology, counseling, or clinical social work, with good academic standing.
  • The ability to manage a demanding caseload while maintaining a positive and healthy outlook.
  • A self-driven commitment to uphold high professional standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative and respectful approach towards colleagues and students.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, including the ability to follow instructions effectively.
  • Competence in using computer systems.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, with no visa sponsorship available.
  • A personal commitment to Christian values and the ability to express this in a church setting, along with adherence to the Community Lifestyle Statement and the Statement of Faith.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in crisis assessment and management.
  • A demonstrated interest in university counseling and student development.
  • An appreciation for and experience working with a diverse student body.

Position Details:

  • Work Hours: 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE)
  • Work Duration: Limited-term position concluding within 9 months.
  • Primary Work Environment: Office setting.
  • Supervisor: Director of Health and Counseling Services
