As a key member of the nutrition team, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive nutritional care plans tailored for outpatient oncology patients. This role requires a thorough assessment of individual nutritional needs in conjunction with other health care strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Duties:
a. Deliver medical nutrition therapy and counseling for oncology patients and their families.
b. Conduct both individual and group educational sessions to enhance nutritional adherence and support optimal treatment outcomes.
c. Build and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, and multidisciplinary health care teams.
d. Assess and evaluate various factors affecting nutritional status through patient interviews and medical record reviews.
e. Formulate personalized nutrition care plans considering clinical, biochemical, and socio-economic factors.
f. Document and communicate nutrition care plans effectively within the health care team.
g. Contribute to the development of educational resources for patients and families.
h. Act as a nutrition consultant and educator for health care professionals and the community.
i. Collaborate with case managers to ensure continuity of care and address any nutritional concerns impacting patient treatment.
j. Engage in quality management initiatives and participate in patient satisfaction assessments.
2. Administrative Duties:
a. Assist in the strategic planning and implementation of nutrition services for outpatient oncology.
b. Represent the nutrition department on various committees as assigned.
c. Contribute to the formulation of policies and procedures that guide nutrition care for oncology patients.
d. Collect and analyze productivity data to inform departmental operations.
e. Evaluate new nutritional products and provide insights to the health care team.
f. Ensure accurate billing and documentation of patient services.
g. Promote nutrition consultation services through outreach efforts.
3. Educational Responsibilities:
a. Mentor dietetic interns and provide training on current oncology nutrition practices.
b. Develop and deliver presentations on nutritional care to various audiences.
c. Participate in educational initiatives to enhance the knowledge of health care professionals regarding medical nutrition therapy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on nutrition or related sciences.
- Registered Dietitian with a commitment to continuing education.
- Minimum of three years of experience in clinical nutrition, particularly in oncology settings is preferred.
