Position Summary: The Control Systems Embedded Engineer will be instrumental in the design, development, coding, testing, and maintenance of embedded systems and their associated software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and generate bills of materials, along with producing PCB fabrication documentation.
- Design and develop digital circuitry for real-time control systems utilizing microcontrollers, digital signal controllers, or digital signal processors.
- Create and implement digital communication interfaces such as CAN, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, SPI, or I2C.
- Develop analog circuitry for signal measurement and generation, integrating a variety of sensors including temperature, pressure, force, flow, concentration, current, or frequency.
- Design and implement power electronics for controlling DC-DC converters or motor drivers, including performing thermal analysis for component selection and thermal management.
- Develop firmware and software for custom PCBAs to manage and communicate with gas compression, generation, or cryogenic systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate newly designed controllers into production units.
- Procure prototype quantities of components and PCBs, assembling and soldering as necessary.
- Design and construct functionally representative prototypes, both physical and computer models.
- Create comprehensive test plans and procedures for validating new technologies, conducting tests with prototypes, and documenting results.
- Perform technical trade studies to support product development strategies and prepare findings for design reviews.
- Engage in technical problem-solving for existing products through cross-departmental collaboration.
- Support Production and Supply Chain teams in the manufacturing of PCBA designs through Contract Manufacturers.
- Assist Test Engineering in EMC testing and qualification by designing circuits that are immune to interference and low in EMI, identifying necessary corrections or improvements.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis for electrical and electronic system failures, with a focus on rapid prototyping.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent schematic/layout tools, along with experience in component selection and evaluation.
- Strong programming skills in Embedded C, C, and C++.
- Experience in the electro-mechanical integration of PCB assemblies and hands-on experience with controller assembly design, build, and testing.
- Knowledge of digital hardware design, including microcontrollers and communication protocols.
- Familiarity with analog hardware design, including ADC measurements and sensor scaling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems.
- Experience in designing hardware testing systems for production.
- Experience with high-power motor controllers and first article design and testing.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment: This position is primarily office-based, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, with occasional walking and the ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, stretching, reaching, and lifting.
