The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is a purpose-driven organization dedicated to protecting the rights and addressing the needs of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide. We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Youth Care Specialist/Worker to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Youth Care Specialist/Worker will provide counseling, initial case management, and day-to-day supervision and monitoring of children in our care. This role requires excellent communication skills, a genuine respect for and interest in children and their families, and the ability to form therapeutic relationships.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide program orientation to youth upon arrival and complete intake.
  2. Provide basic needs to youth, including meals, clothing, hygiene products, and shelter.
  3. Monitor clothing, shelter supplies, allowances, and trips.
  4. Ensure direct care services are provided to youth to meet state and federal requirements.
  5. Plan and implement educational events, acculturation activities, and recreational programs for youth.
  6. Provide therapeutic care to special needs youth and crisis intervention when necessary.
  7. Utilize behavior management tools and document youth behavior.
  8. Develop positive rapport with youth and serve as a role model to create a safe and caring environment.
  9. Ensure all forms and progress notes are properly completed to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  10. Assist with the coordination of Physical Education instruction.
  11. Serve as a model of appropriate behavior and promote culturally sensitive care and treatment.
  12. Maintain the shelter in accordance with ORR, OCFS, OSHA, and agency health and safety standards.
  13. Transport residents to various appointments and activities.
  14. Adhere to all Agency and departmental Safety Procedures.
  15. Attend case conferences and other team meetings.
Requirements:
  1. A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of employment experience in the child welfare field.
  2. A genuine respect for and interest in children and their families of diverse racial and ethnic identity.
  3. Ability to demonstrate counseling techniques.
  4. Written and verbal fluency in English; fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is required.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  6. Exceptional time management and attention to detail.
  7. Flexibility and willingness to work irregular and long hours, including evenings and weekends.
  8. Valid state-issued driver's license and auto insurance.
  9. Must pass a criminal background, child abuse and neglect registry clearance, and other screening requirements.
  10. Possess or be able to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification.
  11. Support a trauma-informed approach and therapeutic learning environment.
  12. Support all functions that attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
  13. Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and composed under stressful situations.
  14. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, service providers, and others.
  15. Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make good and independent judgments or decisions.
  16. Demonstrated support of USCRI's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
Training Requirements:
  1. Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
  2. Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory training.
  3. Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s), program director, or Human Resources.
Physical Demands:
  1. Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  2. Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  3. Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  4. Ability to read, write, and converse in English; fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is required.
  5. Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.
  6. Quantitative/mathematical ability (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and standard measurements).
