Position Summary:


The Walsh Group is seeking a Preconstruction Lead to join our Central Water Group. This role will be pivotal in overseeing the preconstruction phase of our projects.


The Preconstruction Lead will collaborate closely with the Senior Project Manager, Program Manager, and Director of Project Procurement to ensure project requirements are met effectively.

This position will involve working alongside management, operations, estimating, and business development teams.

Key responsibilities will encompass active participation during the preconstruction phase of Collaborative Delivery projects, with additional duties to support project acquisition efforts.

Key Responsibilities:


Lead teams of estimators, project managers, and proposal staff to secure collaborative delivery projects, facilitating the preconstruction process through successful negotiations and procurement.

Engage in the development and execution of pursuit strategies aligned with the company’s vision.


Thoroughly review and comprehend all bid documents, including project logistics and timelines, to evaluate project risks and provide guidance on bid alternatives and methodologies.

Identify and leverage critical components of the bid.

Review and refine team proposals to ensure the submission of strategic, competitive, and high-quality proposals. Prepare precise and well-structured proposals that lead to profitable contracts while upholding quality standards.

Establish and nurture relationships with industry stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and owners, ensuring the company is recognized as the Builder of Choice.

Compile bid packages that involve comparative analysis of subcontractor and supplier bids, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of historical project data, including self-performed work. Lead responses to RFPs to position the company favorably for future opportunities.

Coordinate with project sponsors on schedules, general conditions, and final bid/proposal preparations.


Conduct or facilitate turnover/debriefing meetings post-project award with all team members to assess positive aspects and lessons learned.

Verify, coordinate, and ensure the organization and assembly of all necessary documents for bid submission (e.g., bonds, required signatures, compliance forms, etc.)


Assist in preparing presentations and coaching the client pitch team (including the Program Manager, Project Manager, and Superintendents) to respond to client RFPs and project opportunities.

Participate in industry events and community organizations to build networks and alliances. Aid in monitoring client satisfaction with company services and personnel.

May undertake APM duties on local Collaborative Delivery Projects.

Qualifications:

  • 8 years of relevant experience or 5 years with a college degree
Experience in the preconstruction phase of projects (including constructability reviews, value engineering, cost estimating, procurement, and risk analysis)

Familiarity with estimating and scheduling software

Ability to identify key issues and relationships

Adaptability to change in a professional manner

Initiate and engage in meet-and-greet presentations with subcontractors and suppliers

Strong communication and listening skills; ability to work effectively within a team.

Engage and coordinate with project leaders on procurement matters.

Understanding of costs and market conditions, including risks and rewards.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to prioritize, develop, and maintain schedules

Proficient in software such as Word, Excel, Primavera, Sage/Timberline, Project and Cost Management Systems, Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Effectively organize and utilize meeting time. Capable of leading discussions.
