Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care services to individuals in need of mental health support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to promote quality psychiatric nursing care in an inpatient setting.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and behaviors, documenting observations in an electronic record to ensure accurate and timely communication.
  • Interact with patients therapeutically to promote living and social skills, encouraging progress towards a lesser restrictive environment.
  • Participate in individualized and unit-based programming to support patient recovery and well-being.
  • Collaborate with the recovery team or admissions team to provide on-going, verbal and written communication concerning patient progress or lack thereof.
  • Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment, taking and monitoring vital signs, and performing other assigned tasks within competency level.
  • Actively promote safety through continuous monitoring of the environment and engagement with patients to minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment programs.
  • Basic computer skills and documentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills to interact with team members.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and conduct TIPS.
  • Ability to work with others and accept supervision.
  • Ability to train and provide guidance to others.
Working Conditions

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends. The employee has full access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
