Primary Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting various veterinary laboratory assessments
  • Maintaining precise medical documentation
  • Assisting in the preparation of animals for surgical procedures and monitoring recovery
  • Administering medications and vaccinations
  • Supporting emergency response initiatives during crises
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
  • Understanding of standard medical procedures for small animals
  • Familiarity with prevalent animal diseases and health requirements
  • Proficiency in safe medication administration, euthanasia protocols, and biohazard waste management
  • Ability to handle and transport animals weighing up to 50 pounds
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Skill in handling and restraining animals of various sizes
  • Willingness to work closely with different species of animals
  • Must be able to receive vaccinations against Rabies
Work Environment
  • Heavy Work - Physical capability to lift and move substantial weights
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited veterinary technician program
  • Successful completion of the Certified Veterinary Technician examination in Florida
  • Two years of relevant experience in an animal care environment
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
  • Ability to perform euthanasia procedures within specified timelines
Emergency Management Duties

During emergencies or disasters, employees are expected to fulfill assigned responsibilities promptly and effectively based on departmental or emergency management directives. Tasks may include pre, during, or post-incident activities.
