Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Pathologist Assistant, you will assist pathologists in all aspects of anatomic pathology, including dissection, gross description, and histologic processing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform dissection and dictate gross description of surgical specimens
  • Obtain and review pertinent clinical information and history for appropriate specimens
  • Perform frozen sections utilizing cryobath, cryostat, stains, and coverslip slides
  • Collect designated specimens for special studies and frozen tissue bank
  • Conduct training seminars and instruct pathologists' assistant students in techniques and protocols
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on PA student projects
  • Prepare renal biopsy specimens for examination and maintain pathology laboratory facilities
  • Communicate with managers of other departments and provide guidelines for specimen triage and requirements
Requirements:
  • Graduate from a Baccalaureate Pathology Assistant program or successful completion of a post-baccalaureate program from an approved school of Pathology Assistants
  • Certification by American Association of Pathology Assistants (AAPA) or American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Pathology Assistant
