Job Summary

Under the direction of a pathologist, assists in all aspects of anatomic pathology, including dissection, dictation, and histologic processing. Obtains and reviews pertinent clinical information and history for appropriate specimens. Performs frozen sections, collects designated specimens, and conducts training seminars for pathologists' assistant students. Maintains pathology laboratory facilities and equipment, and evaluates and provides feedback on PA student projects.

Responsibilities
  • Assists pathologists in dissection and dictation of surgical specimens
  • Reviews clinical information and history for appropriate specimens
  • Performs frozen sections and collects designated specimens
  • Conducts training seminars for pathologists' assistant students
  • Maintains pathology laboratory facilities and equipment
  • Evaluates and provides feedback on PA student projects
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Baccalaureate Pathology Assistant program or successful completion of a post-baccalaureate program from an approved school of Pathology Assistants
  • Certification by American Association of Pathology Assistants (AAPA) or American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Pathology Assistant
