Job Summary

The Morton Arboretum is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Center for Tree Science. As a key member of our team, you will lead an independent research program in plant pathology, focusing on developing novel insights into the field and informing tree and ecosystem management practices.

About the Role

  • Establish and oversee an independent research program in plant pathology, aligned with the Arboretum's mission and strategic goals.
  • Communicate research findings to professional and academic peers through presentations and publications.
  • Submit proposals for extramural funding, collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Manage reporting of key activities and findings to external funders.
  • Archive and document open-access research data and lab processes for long-term institutional knowledge.
  • Disseminate research results and technical knowledge to various audiences through public lectures, media engagements, and professional trainings.
  • Mentor and advise lab research staff, interns, and students, promoting their professional development.
  • Participate in CTS, departmental, and institutional strategic planning and decision-making.

Qualifications

We are looking for a Ph.D. holder in plant pathology or a related field, with expertise in modern techniques and tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as experience interacting with practitioners and professionals in government and private sectors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications is necessary.

What We Offer

This exempt position comes with a competitive salary range of $90,000-$105,000, based on experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also included.
