Department Role
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) offers expertise in policy, planning, and environmental assessments related to DEP's initiatives. This bureau is instrumental in coordinating policy matters at various governmental levels concerning stormwater management, water conservation, and environmental protection.
Position Summary
BEPA is seeking an Environmental Safety and Compliance Officer to manage the bureau's environmental health and safety (EHS) functions, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and agency policies.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Oversee a comprehensive Employee Safety and Health Program across the bureau.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote a positive EHS culture.
- Address and investigate employee safety concerns.
- Conduct occupational safety assessments, facility audits, and job hazard analyses.
- Prepare and review reports, providing recommendations for future actions.
- Offer technical guidance to staff to enhance workplace safety and health.
- Interpret OSHA/PESH regulations and other relevant EHS requirements.
- Serve as Site Safety Officer for special projects.
- Establish training programs to promote safety awareness.
- Coordinate and track employee training in professional and EHS areas.
- Compile and input bureau metrics into relevant IT systems.
- Review contractor safety records and perform field assessments to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, including 30 semester credits in physical or biological sciences, or an associate degree with relevant experience. All candidates must have at least 60 semester credits, including 15 in the sciences, and a minimum of 2 years of experience as a public health sanitarian.
