Job Summary:

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Preliminary School Nurse Credential (employer assistance available)
- Current BLS Certification (American Heart or American Red Cross)
- Current First Aid Certification (American Heart or American Red Cross)
- Valid driver's license

Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing services at assigned school sites or early education centers
- Identify health problems affecting a student's ability to learn and offer interventions to help families address health barriers to learning
- Determine, provide, and supervise skilled care for students with special health needs, such as diabetes, severe allergies, and other conditions
- Refer students and families to relevant services for physical or mental health needs
- Respond to emergency situations, accidents, and illnesses at school
- Evaluate immunizations required for school entry and ensure compliance
- Provide in-service education to school staff on CPR, automated external defibrillator usage, first aid, communicable disease control, and other topics
- Offer health education to students individually and in groups, addressing various health topics and relating health instruction to specific student needs
- Participate in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans for students with special needs

CA Education Code State Mandated Responsibilities:
- First aid
- Emergency care
- Medication administration
- Supervise student immunization compliance
- Control of communicable diseases
- Immunization assessment and follow-up
- Assistance with hearing assessments and vision screenings
- Parent notifications, referrals, and follow-ups for possible health defects
- Suspected child abuse reporting
