Education Support Specialist

Hawthorne School District is committed to providing a rigorous standards-based educational program to its students. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Education Support Specialist.
Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will work under the direction of the School Principal and in cooperation with certificated teachers to plan and deliver learning experiences. They will assist in instructional activities, perform routine clerical and supportive tasks, and maintain records and files.
- Main Responsibilities:
- Work with teachers to develop and implement instructional plans for whole group, small group, and one-on-one settings
- Reinforce instructional concepts taught by certificated teachers
- SUPPORT student behavior and engagement through positive strategies and techniques
- Prepare and assist in preparing instructional materials and learning aids for individual students or groups
- Maintain records and files, including confidential student information
- Manage materials, programs, and technology to support teaching and learning
- Administer and score assessments, recording results accurately
- Create a positive and effective learning environment
- Participate in parent conferences and report student progress to staff and families
- Collaborate with district and site staff
- Provide basic first aid and request assistance when necessary
- Perform other related duties as required
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Knowledge:
- Basic concepts of child growth and development
- Student behavior management strategies
- English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar
- Mathematical concepts
- Routine record management systems and procedures
- Skills:
- Engage students in effective instructional activities
- Demonstrate patience, understanding, and receptivity toward students of varying age groups
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Perform routine clerical tasks and operate educational equipment
- SUPPORT the creation and maintenance of a positive learning environment
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions from teachers and administrators
- Establish cooperative working relationships with children and adults
