As a Per Diem RN specializing in Transfusion and Oncology, you will play a crucial role in the Chemotherapy Center Department. This position involves delivering parenteral therapy to stable adult outpatients within a hospital-based outpatient infusion setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Care Delivery and Therapeutic Interventions:
- Adhere to established Nursing Standards of Practice, encompassing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Follow unit-based protocols diligently.
- Administer medications and IV solutions in accordance with hospital policies, consulting resources as necessary.
- Ensure chemotherapy administration aligns with hospital guidelines and seek information when needed. - Patient and Family Education:
- Assess the educational needs of patients and their families.
- Develop and provide tailored instructional materials.
- Evaluate and document the effectiveness of educational efforts. - Professional Development:
- Engage in unit-based initiatives and hospital committees.
- Attend annual staff development and continuing education programs.
- Maintain and update your educational records.
- Participate in relevant professional organizations. - Leadership and Teamwork:
- Foster a positive work environment through exemplary conduct and teamwork.
- Facilitate patient care by delegating responsibilities effectively.
- Assume charge RN duties, demonstrating independent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Exhibit strong organizational and prioritization abilities, assisting in the orientation and training of nursing staff. - Additional Duties:
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant responsibilities related to the position.
- Current RN license in Connecticut is mandatory; BSN is preferred.
- Experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Oncology, and IV Therapy is advantageous.
- Certification in Oncology Chemotherapy and Biological Therapy is preferred.
- Basic Life Support Certification is required.
Skills:
- Excellent IV insertion skills.
- Familiarity with chemotherapeutic agents and advanced clinical knowledge of central venous catheter devices.
- Understanding of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process and ICD-9 coding.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
Working Conditions:
- Manual skills and motor coordination are required.
- Minimal occupational risk with sedentary to light physical effort, capable of exerting up to 10 lbs.
- Generally pleasant working conditions.
Credentials:
- BLS, RN
