**Job Description:
Mental Health Nurse Specialist RoleWe are seeking an experienced Mental Health Nurse Specialist to join our team in providing high-quality patient care and support. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for implementing nursing processes, administering medications, and monitoring patient responses. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and develop effective treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation of care, evaluation of patient responses and revision of plan as needed)
- Provide individual counseling, lead or co-lead group counseling sessions, and conduct family conferences
- Administer medications and monitor their use and side effects
- May provide functional and clinical supervision to student nurses and other disciplines
- Maintain all necessary records and patient charts; collect data for research and evaluation
- Identify community agencies and resources that can assist patients; serve as a liaison on patient's behalf
- Provide crisis intervention including evaluation, counseling, and consultation with law enforcement agencies; may be designated to escort patients for involuntary admission under Section 5150 of the Welfare and Institutions Code
Senior Registered Nurse-Mental Health Responsibilities:
- Plans, with a multi-disciplinary team, health service programs to meet the needs of mentally ill patients in an outpatient setting
- Evaluates and provides clinical supervision to nursing staff in areas of employee development, work performance, and in the development and implementation of effective treatment plans, proper medication procedures, proper use and maintenance of equipment and effective relationships with other staff members and agencies
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California
- Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license by first day of employment
- One year of full-time professional registered nursing experience providing direct patient care in a mental health setting for Registered Nurse-Mental Health
- Four years of full-time professional, registered nursing experience, including two years of full-time experience in nursing care management -- with one year in a charge nurse capacity for Senior Registered Nurse-Mental Health
