ROLE: Rehabilitation Specialist

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday

POSITION SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for spearheading the development, execution, and management of the rehabilitation program. This role involves screening, assessment, educational planning, therapeutic intervention, and transition strategies for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that hinder their daily life activities or engagement in desired roles. Utilizing professional judgment and clinical expertise, the specialist will create tailored programs addressing occupational performance challenges in areas such as personal care, social interaction, process skills, recreational activities, community integration, and communication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each student's strengths and needs through evaluation and service delivery.

  • Engage in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss evaluation outcomes, provide recommendations, and formulate individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet specific goals.
  • Deliver targeted, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to enhance student participation and performance within the educational setting.
  • Consult with team members to achieve desired student outcomes.
  • Modify the environment and utilize assistive technology to support individual needs, promoting independence.
  • Educate students, staff, and families on skills related to occupational performance and health maintenance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of therapy interventions, adjusting as necessary.
  • Document therapy services to ensure accountability and compliance with reimbursement standards.
  • Independently prioritize and manage work tasks.
  • Oversee the inventory of therapeutic tools and plan for budgetary needs.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative records in line with professional standards and organizational policies.
  • Provide supervision to support personnel, ensuring quality service delivery.
  • Adhere to relevant legislation and policies governing occupational therapy practice.
  • Review therapy services for quality improvement and implement necessary changes.
  • Facilitate training and education for staff, families, and community service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy.
  • Current licensure from the relevant state board.
  • Minimum of two years of experience, preferably in pediatric settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of human development and its impact on student participation.
  • Awareness of how disabilities and socio-economic factors affect occupational engagement.
  • Familiarity with occupational therapy theories and evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to assess and interpret evaluation data to inform service delivery.
  • Skill in developing collaborative IEPs with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Competence in adapting environments and materials to meet individual needs.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
