ABOUT NORTHERN TIER HIGH ADVENTURE PROGRAM
As a premier high adventure program, we specialize in wilderness canoe expeditions and winter camping experiences. Our mission is to create life-changing adventures tailored for youth organizations, guided by the principles of the scout oath and law.
Each year, we employ a diverse team of staff members from various backgrounds, all dedicated to delivering unforgettable wilderness experiences to participants.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WINTER CAMPING GUIDE / CAMP COUNSELOR
In this role, you will be pivotal to our program's success, working closely with scouts to ensure a safe and memorable experience. Your daily activities will include winter camping, sledding, ice fishing, and teaching essential outdoor skills, all while serving as a positive role model. Off-trip days will involve various base camp support tasks, ensuring a well-rounded experience.
Comprehensive training is provided, including Wilderness First Aid and practical field experience through winter trips featuring cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and dog sledding.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WINTER CAMPING GUIDE / CAMP COUNSELOR
- Must be 18 years or older
- Available for the winter season
- Enthusiastic about winter camping
- Dedicated to outdoor adventure and youth mentorship
Ideal candidates will possess critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently, and a strong focus on safety. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for engaging effectively with both youth and adults.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically involves a work schedule of six days on, followed by one day off, throughout the winter season.
