Senior Clinical Pharmacy Leader

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Clinical Pharmacy Leader is tasked with delivering comprehensive clinical pharmacy services within a designated specialty area to enhance the safety, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency of medication therapy, adhering to all relevant regulatory standards, including those set by The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
This role involves serving as a pharmacotherapy authority on an interdisciplinary patient care team, providing direct patient care, conducting pharmacotherapy consultations, and offering medication-related education to both patients and team members. The leader will also engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the formulation of medication-related best practices and policies pertinent to their specialty.
As a leader within the department, the Senior Clinical Pharmacy Leader will organize departmental initiatives and facilitate educational opportunities for pharmacy colleagues and trainees across various levels of practice.
The leader will possess a solid understanding of the operational dynamics of the pharmacy department and will actively contribute to the overarching objectives of the pharmacy team.
This position includes direct supervisory and management responsibilities for a specialized clinical team within the department. The Senior Clinical Pharmacy Leader will uphold the qualifications of a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist III and will oversee service line performance and continuity, which encompasses schedule management, recruitment and retention, performance evaluations, educational training, and conflict resolution within the specialty team.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A Pharm.D. degree or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution is essential. Completion of an ASHP-accredited Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency with a minimum of three years of experience in the specialty area, or equivalent experience (PGY1 plus five additional years in the specialty area; or eight years of experience with at least five years in the specialty area within health-system pharmacy) is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Current licensure as a pharmacist and pharmacy preceptor, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of Texas is mandatory. Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (as applicable to the specialty) is also required.
