Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at Chicopee Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing speech and language services to students, as well as collaborating with teachers and parents to support student communication needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-referral Prevention and Consultation: Provide support to students, teachers, and parents to prevent referral to special education services.
  • Scheduling and Assessment: Schedule and conduct assessments to identify students' communication needs.
  • Intervention and Consultation: Develop and implement individualized intervention plans and provide consultation to teachers and parents.
  • Transition Services and Collaboration: Collaborate with special education and general education colleagues, parents, and community agencies to ensure a smooth transition for students.
  • Documentation and Billing: Maintain accurate records and documentation for third-party billing.
  • Continuing Education and Professional Development: Stay current with best practices and attend professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Inventory Management and Equipment Maintenance: Manage inventory and maintain equipment to ensure effective delivery of services.
  • 504/IEP Plan Development and Team Meetings: Participate in the development of 504 and IEP plans and attend team meetings.
  • Mentoring and Supervision: Provide guidance and support to SLP-Clinical Fellows, Speech-Language Pathology Assistants, undergraduate and graduate college interns, and high school seniors.
  • Data Collection and School-wide Program Development: Collect data and contribute to the development of school-wide programs to support student communication needs.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Articulation and Phonology: Develop and implement interventions to address articulation and phonology needs.
  • Fluency and Voice/Resonance: Provide support to students with fluency and voice/resonance needs.
  • Receptive and Expressive Language: Develop and implement interventions to address receptive and expressive language needs.
  • Literacy and Social Aspects: Provide support to students with literacy and social aspects needs.
  • Cognitive Aspects and Multiculturalism: Develop and implement interventions to address cognitive aspects and multiculturalism needs.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication: Provide support to students with augmentative and alternative communication needs.
  • Behavior and Hearing: Develop and implement interventions to address behavior and hearing needs.
  • Swallowing: Provide support to students with swallowing needs.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • SLP-Clinical Fellows: Provide guidance and support to SLP-Clinical Fellows.
  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistants: Provide guidance and support to Speech-Language Pathology Assistants.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate College Interns: Provide guidance and support to undergraduate and graduate college interns.
  • High School Seniors: Provide guidance and support to high school seniors.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology: Earn a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence: Hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • License to Practice Speech Language Pathology: Hold a license to practice speech language pathology by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Educator License: Hold an Educator License from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
  • Code of Ethics: Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
