Job Summary

Davis-Standard is a global leader in the design, development, and distribution of extrusion and converting technology. Our systems encompass product lines to support manufacturing applications and customers in a wide variety of industries, including automotive, building & construction, consumer products, medical, and packaging.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to join our team. This position will oversee all aspects of operations for Davis-Standard's manufacturing department for an assigned shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the manufacturing department, ensuring efficient and effective production processes.
  • Develop and implement training methods and processes for department personnel, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Manager and leadership team to achieve plant objectives and support facility policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Utilize technical expertise and supervision skills to manufacture complex machined components and assemblies, ensuring quality requirements are met.
  • Execute the LDM process and meetings, ensuring all metrics, KPIs, and important operations information are compiled, analyzed, and posted on LDM Boards.
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions to address operational and technical performance, determine root cause, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Mentor, train, and inspire department personnel on lean, 5S, and continuous improvement principles and projects.
  • Work with Manufacturing Manager and others to develop, implement, and execute a standardized training process for all department personnel.
  • Schedule work of machining centers and personnel, taking into consideration overall lead times of given projects.
  • Anticipate and resolve bottlenecks when work competes for the same resources.
  • Work with Programmers to develop methods for parts and assemblies, as well as scheduling job releases for machining and assembly.
  • Provide updates on the status of machining, proposing project milestones, completion of milestones, and project delivery.

Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of progressive job responsibilities working in a manufacturing setting, with a proven understanding of and experience in a high-precision machining and assembly environment.
  • At minimum three (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of schematic documentation and dimensioning, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, parts, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tool operating procedures.
  • CNC Programming experience in a manufacturing environment on similar equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively solve problems both on an individual and collaborative approach.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office 365 and production software.
  • Familiarity with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems - preferably Epicor.
  • Effective communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
