The Research Engagement Coordinator (Research Support Specialist) will assist in research initiatives under the supervision of a Principal Investigator or their designated representative. This role is integral to the REACH (Research Engagement and Community Health) Equity Team, which is dedicated to tackling disparities in HIV and behavioral health (mental health/substance use) that impact key populations, particularly focusing on Latino men who have sex with men (MSM).

This is a full-time, in-person position located at the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Certain responsibilities will require presence at community venues (e.g., events, healthcare organizations) to fulfill the objectives of the role.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Conducts research, gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes data while maintaining comprehensive databases. Performs quality assurance checks and provides updates on research progress. Organizes and facilitates community working group meetings related to research protocols. Acts as the primary liaison for community partners and oversees data collection efforts at designated venues. Monitors study advancements, identifies potential improvements, and proposes solutions. Prepares and revises research procedure manuals. Contributes to the dissemination of significant findings through publications and presentations, including writing and editing materials for these purposes. Maintains organized research files and manages communications through the research study contact line. Complies with University policies and procedures, ensuring the protection of University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., public health, communications, community health, psychology, sociology, nursing, or related fields).

Experience:

Previous experience in a related capacity (e.g., recruitment for studies, outreach for community initiatives, community engagement for research) is preferred but not mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines across various projects. Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required and pre-approved by the supervisor. Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Proficiency in handling confidential information with care. Skills in engaging with community members (Latino gay, bisexual, and other sexual minority men) and organizations serving these communities. Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, PhotoShop) is a plus but not essential.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

The Research Support Specialist will contribute to various projects, including:

JUNTOS Referral Network: A platform designed to serve as a centralized database for HIV prevention and treatment services tailored to Latino MSM. The role involves recruiting HIV test counselors and screening potential participants for the study.

Dime Más: A pilot trial comparing different strategies to enhance access to PrEP, HIV testing, and behavioral health services for Latino MSM. The position includes recruiting participants through community engagement.

Community Advisory Board: This role involves coordinating CAB meetings, engaging with members, and supporting their community service activities.

Additional projects may arise requiring support from the Research Support Specialist, ensuring effective recruitment, outreach, and community engagement to achieve research success.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify and attend events and organizations to recruit potential study participants. Coordinate recruitment activities for themselves and other team members. Maintain a consistent recruitment schedule based on study requirements. Utilize social and sexual networking platforms for recruitment and outreach. Systematically document all recruitment efforts and outcomes to identify effective practices. Conduct recruitment activities during non-traditional hours as coordinated with the supervisor. Collaborate with individuals supporting recruitment for specific projects. Assist in developing and maintaining a lab website for public accessibility of ongoing projects. Create various materials to support recruitment and community engagement efforts. Manage all aspects of the Community Advisory Board, including recruitment and retention of members. Screen and enroll participants for research studies, ensuring accurate documentation. Participate in lab and project-specific meetings to report on recruitment and outreach activities. Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish for the responsibilities outlined above.
