Job Title: Non-CDL Driver

At Brenham Independent School District, we are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Non-CDL Driver to join our transportation team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating a 12-passenger bus and other white fleet vehicles to provide safe and orderly transportation for students and authorized personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a 12-passenger bus and other white fleet vehicles safely and effectively.
  • Follow assigned routes and adhere to established schedules.
  • Drive assigned vehicles to and from extracurricular activities.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and notify supervisors of needed repairs.
  • Report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problems, and complete required reports.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports, including bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean and neat, and maintain the appropriate level of fuel.
  • Supervise students while boarding and exiting the vehicle and crossing the street.
  • Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations.
  • Perform emergency evacuations of students if necessary.
  • Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for motor vehicles.
  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, flags, fuses, flares, crowbars, and reflectors.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisors of any hazards that are not immediately correctable.
  • Report immediately any hazardous conditions along the route.
  • Anticipate problems such as traffic, students, weather, road conditions, schedule changes, etc., and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
  • Attend and complete required training programs.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel, and co-workers.
  • Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office and other drivers.
  • Assist other drivers when necessary.
  • May be assigned to work as a bus aide when necessary.
Requirements:
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Employee will have 45 days from the time of employment to obtain CDL.
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests and agility test and annual physical.
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Proficient map reading skills.
Working Conditions:
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Occasional district-wide and statewide travel.
  • Work outside and inside.
  • Modest exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
Salary:

$17.50 per hour.
