Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Attorney to join our team at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. As a key member of our litigation and training team, you will be responsible for supervising a team of attorneys, advocates, and support staff, and providing expert guidance on complex litigation and staff development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of attorneys, advocates, and support staff in the areas of litigation, training, and staff development.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex litigation, including trial preparation, discovery, and negotiation.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff, including training on litigation, advocacy, and case management.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Attorney to develop and implement team goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all program and grant requirements.

Requirements:

  • Member of the California Bar.
  • Three years of experience as a practicing attorney, with two years in civil poverty law or public interest law.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in using basic tools of a litigating attorney, including drafting answers, propounding and responding to discovery, depositions, negotiations, law and motion trial experience, and post-trial remedies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with administrative proceedings.
  • Desire and demonstrated capacity to train and mentor lesser experienced attorneys.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with housing law, including landlord-tenant law, unlawful detainer proceedings, and administrative law pertaining to subsidized housing.
  • Excellent Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
