Job Title: Supervising Attorney - Immigration Law Specialist

The Bar Association of San Francisco is seeking an experienced immigration attorney to join our team as a Supervising Attorney. This role will involve working with the San Francisco Unified School District to provide legal support and services to students and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform initial screenings and intakes for SFUSD students and their family members to assess their needs and provide referrals for legal and social services.
  • Provide individualized legal consultations, including Know Your Rights information, eligibility assessments, and targeted referrals for full scope representation.
  • Accompany SFUSD students and their families to court through our Attorney of the Day program.
  • Offer limited scope legal services, such as work permit applications, asylum filings, and motions to reopen.
  • Organize and coordinate clinics, Know Your Rights presentations, and legal orientations for SFUSD students and their families.
  • Collaborate with SFUSD staff and social workers to assess the legal needs of the newcomer student population.
  • Develop community-facing materials to assist SFUSD students and their families in navigating the immigration process.
  • Provide full scope representation for a limited number of SFUSD students and their family members before the San Francisco Immigration Court and USCIS.
  • Supervise two Legal Services Coordinators and recruit, train, and support pro bono volunteers.
Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school and California license to practice law.
  • 5+ years of experience practicing immigration law, including cases in removal proceedings.
  • Familiarity with Asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, TPS, and DACA.
  • At least one year of experience in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish, with proficiency in other languages a plus.
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally competent manner.
