Our operations are sustained through generous donor contributions and entrepreneurial initiatives, including our thrift store and donated goods recycling program. The items collected through our donation bins are not only distributed to those in need but also converted into funds that support vital outreach services like our mobile soup kitchen and food pantry.

Position Overview:

The Donation Processing Specialist will play a crucial role in managing the flow of donations from contributors to our retail environment. This position involves various responsibilities, including the acceptance, sorting, and pricing of donated goods, all while adhering to organizational policies and the mission of Hearts Foundation Inc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently perform daily tasks within the processing team, including accepting donations, pre-sorting, and pricing items.
  • Greet donors promptly, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated for their contributions.
  • Handle the donation reception process with respect and care, following company protocols such as greeting donors, assisting with unloading, sharing the mission of Hearts Foundation Inc., confirming details with the donor, and issuing receipts.
  • Screen and accept incoming donations, gathering donor information in accordance with company policies to provide appropriate receipts.
  • Complete the processing workflow by categorizing and sorting incoming donated materials.
  • Identify quality merchandise and seek guidance from Retail Managers on pricing strategies.
  • Tag, price, and organize merchandise in the staging area for retail staff in compliance with company policies.
  • Produce accurate and timely work in a dynamic environment.
  • Report daily production metrics accurately, including communication regarding any challenges faced in meeting production goals.
  • Maintain a clean and organized reception, presort, and processing area, ensuring readiness for subsequent shifts.
  • Conduct inventories of required merchandise and report findings to management.
  • Understand and adhere to policies and procedures related to donated items, including prohibited items and pricing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with volunteers, providing clear instructions and guidance.
  • Act independently and responsibly to consistently fulfill job duties.
  • Comply with the code of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance with flexibility to work various shifts.
  • Sales experience is a plus.
  • Experience in volunteer management is advantageous.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes and bags of donated items weighing up to 35 pounds.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of supervising, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Point of Sales Systems, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $16.00 per hour
