Job Title: Project Engineer

Baker Construction is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting field activities and working closely with the Project Manager to ensure the successful completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the job transition process and support the management of cost and schedule, constructability, technical evaluations, quality, safety, work planning, procurement, contract management, regulatory compliance, etc.
  • Generate and obtain approvals of monthly billing and earned values
  • Develop and manage the project schedule on small or mid-sized projects
  • Analyze targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reports
  • Alert the Superintendent and Project Manager of project impact relating to resource management, crew make-up/size, etc.
  • Generate and obtain approval of the initial budget and subsequent updates, and reviews weekly job cost summaries and advises the Project Manager
  • Generate estimates of change orders and may interface with pre-construction on original bids
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years' of experience or 6 years' of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • The following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the project
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situations
  • Ability to analyze and compute mathematical differences from all stages of drawings from conceptual to final drawings including development of shop drawings
  • Ability to understand Cost Accounting
  • Basic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline, Vista and the like
  • Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets
  • Ability to direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co-workers
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop construction schedule via the critical path method
  • Ability to understand contracts, specifications, drawings, and scope of work
  • Ability to be proactive in maximizing our return on investment at all time
