Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firefighter/EMT to join our team at the City of Hendersonville. As a Firefighter/EMT, you will be responsible for responding to emergency situations, providing medical care, and conducting fire prevention and safety education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide medical care to patients
  • Conduct fire prevention and safety education to the public
  • Participate in training and drills to maintain and improve skills
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of fire equipment and apparatus
  • Work effectively in a team environment and communicate with other emergency responders
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Class B driver's license required
  • IFSAC or Pro-Board certifications required
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications required within one year of hire
  • NC Emergency Medical Technician EMT-Basic certification required
  • NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Certified Technician certification required within one year of hire
  • Traffic Incident Management certification required
  • Successful completion of Hendersonville Fire Department Probationary Manual required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of firefighting procedures and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of emergency medical treatment techniques
  • Knowledge of City geography and street locations
  • Knowledge of sprinkler systems in buildings and hydrant locations
  • Knowledge of effective interpersonal communications techniques
  • Skills in the use of firefighting tools and equipment
  • Ability to conduct fire prevention and safety education
  • Ability to perform difficult physical procedures for prolonged periods
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat and cold. Employee is subject to noise, vibration, and hazards, including proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to high heat and chemicals.
