We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced educator to join our team as a Youth Education Program Instructor at the University of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality educational programs to children and adults, focusing on plant science and environmental education. The instructor will work closely with our team to develop and implement engaging and interactive programs, including field trips, in-classroom outreach experiences, and summer day camps.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver educational programs that connect children and adults to plants and the natural world
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and other adults to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Prepare and manage program supplies, including stocking items for future programs
  • Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment for students
  • Delegate tasks and provide guidance to volunteers as needed
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for program improvement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, horticulture, natural sciences, or a related field
  • Experience teaching in a classroom or informal setting
  • Ability to teach with energy, clarity, and flexibility
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and adults using patience and a sense of humor
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to walk, bend, and lift 20 pounds, working indoors and outdoors
  • Must successfully pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and adults in a educational setting
  • Ability to play games, use puppets, and engage in hands-on activities
