Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate a range of conventional machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders. Additionally, manage CNC lathes and CNC milling centers to fulfill production demands.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze blueprints or job orders to ascertain product specifications, including dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions. Strategically plan the sequence of operations for optimal outcomes.
- Tool Setup: Select, position, and secure tools in holders (chucks, collets, or tool posts) for precise machining tasks.
- Workpiece Positioning: Accurately position and secure workpieces in holding devices, machine tables, chucks, centers, or fixtures.
- Machine Control: Adjust machine controls to accurately position tools and workpieces, setting specified feeds, speeds, and depths of cut.
- CNC Programming: Edit and update CNC programs, collaborating with programmers and the engineering team to drive continuous improvement.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor machine operations and ensure that machined workpieces meet specifications, maintaining high-quality standards.
- Tool Maintenance: Utilize bench tools to de-burr parts and sharpen tools with bench grinders, ensuring optimal performance.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support team and production objectives.
- Education and Experience: An associate degree or equivalent from a technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in setting up and operating both conventional and CNC machine tools.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Capable of accurately reading and interpreting blueprints and job orders.
- Mechanical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to effectively use handwheels, valves, and other machine controls.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in verifying machined workpieces to ensure they meet specifications.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
- Safety and Quality Focus: Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and upholding high-quality standards.
- Experienced Machinist: Expertise in operating both conventional and CNC machinery with a thorough understanding of machining processes.
