Work Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, daytime; 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM
General Responsibilities:
As a Cardiac MRI Technologist, you will perform a range of intricate and specialized tasks associated with operating high-field strength magnets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Screening patients for MRI safety prior to procedures.
- Assisting radiologists with protocol development and procedure execution.
- Starting IVs and administering contrast media as per protocols.
- Evaluating MRI scans for technical quality and organizing processed images.
- Scheduling patients for procedures and managing clerical tasks.
- Charging for MRI procedures and supplies in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Operating power injectors for contrast media administration.
- Maintaining accurate patient records.
- Providing orientation and training for new technologists and student technologists.
- Addressing the psychological and physical needs of patients undergoing MRI procedures.
Additionally, you will:
• Position patients for MRI scans using appropriate immobilization and protective equipment.
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow across multiple MRI sites.
• Assist in the education and training of new physicians, including interns and residents.
• Collaborate with radiologists and physicists to develop new imaging protocols unique to Duke Health.
• Facilitate research initiatives by adhering to scanning protocols.
• Demonstrate proficiency in over 100 MRI protocols within the health system and educate others on their application.
Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of a program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or current certification is required.
Experience:
• Level I: Must obtain ARRT certification within 18 months of employment.
• Level II: Minimum of two years' experience as an MRI technologist.
• Level III: A minimum of four years' experience in the specialty modality for promotion.
Licensure and Certification:
Certification in one of the following is required: Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), CNMT, ARDMS, or registry eligible for Magnetic Resonance (MR). ARRT or ARMRIT registration in Magnetic Resonance (MR) is required within 18 months of employment. BLS certification is also required.
