Job Summary:

The Lactation Consultant PRN is responsible for delivering quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation with a focus on education.

This position participates as an essential member of the healthcare team providing education, support, and lactation therapy for the breastfeeding of inpatient and/or outpatient mothers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimize the numbers of breastfeeding and breast milk-feeding infants.
  • Develop and implement standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the District.
  • Provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and family members.
  • Assess infant's readiness to breastfeeding/breast milk feeding and provide education to parents who are interested in breastfeeding/breast milk feeding.
  • Participate in community activities which support, educate and promote the benefits of breastfeeding.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 3 plus years of experience in peer counseling working in a healthcare setting or 3 plus years of experience providing professional breastfeeding support.
  • Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Current JPS-recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 90 days of hire.
